Track Your Refund

Wondering when you'll receive your tax refund? Finding out is easier than ever.

Track Your Federal Tax Refund

Typically, the IRS issues tax refunds within 3 weeks upon receiving a tax return. However, some tax returns may require additional review, so it may take longer than 3 weeks for you to receive your refund.

You can check the status of your federal refund online via the IRS's "Where's My Refund?" tool. You can start using this tool 24 hours after e-filing your return, or 4 weeks after mailing a paper return.

The "Where's My Refund?" tool shows three stages of progress:

  1. Return Received

  2. Refund Approved

  3. Refund Sent

The IRS also offers a free mobile app, IRS2GO, through which users can check their refund status, make payments, and more. Learn more about the IRS2GO app.

Georgia Resident? Track Your State Refund

Are you a local client waiting on your state refund? Georgia residents can check their state refund status online, as well. It may take up to 90 days for the Georgia Department of Revenue to issue a refund.

Click the button below to check the status of your Georgia state refund.

If you file taxes in a state other than Georgia, you may also be able to check your status refund status online; check with that state's Department of Revenue for information regarding online tools available to taxpayers.

Due to the IRS and Georgia DOR both shutting down for a period of time in 2020 in response to the pandemic, both agencies are far behind processing forms and documents submitted in paper form, including tax returns, IRS notice responses, installment agreement responses, and more. These may not be processed until the summer.
